Andy Billings
Fmr. VP of Learning and Org Dev | Author and Keynote Speaker
Andy Billings was the Co-Founder of EA University and fmr. Vice President of Talent and Organizational Development. In his role at EA and elsewhere, Andy is passionate about energizing executives, managers, and teams to shape their professional futures and transform how they do business through innovation, product development, and organization building. In short, he works with others to find the right path toward success and profitability.
Andy stresses the vital importance of leadership development as a force for transformational change. Known for developing highly-effective simulations, games, and other creative means that result in learning and change, Andy looks to develop key change agents who can ensure ongoing profitability by overcoming “impossible” challenges. Participants in Andy’s initiatives have played a major role in EA’s recent digital transformation and financial turnaround. In the last three years, the company has gone from losing money to high profitability and the stock price has more than tripled. As a further indication of success, the company was recently named to Fortune’s list of World’s Most Admired Companies. Andy and his teams have won many national awards for leadership development and organizational transformation. His Leadership Xcelerators, a series of leadership development programs relying heavily on the concept of “leaders learning from leaders,” won an Optimas Award for most innovative program and the Corporate University Best-in-Class award for quantified business impact. Other awards include the Brandon Hall Award for Leadership Development and Bersin by Deloitte’s What Works Award, which recognized the multi-year effort to transform into a digital services company. Each of these awards recognizes how these programs build business acumen and increase profitability. After earning his PhD in applied psychology and a medical fellowship from the University of Vermont, Andy worked at Stanford University’s School of Medicine, where he won a national career scientist award in healthcare. He then moved into management consulting and was a managing partner in RHR International, a global consulting firm. Andy is the author of many scientific and business publications, including Big Change at Best Buy: Working through Hypergrowth to Sustained Excellence, a book describing his involvement with Best Buy during their journey to becoming the leading consumer electronics leader. When he’s not focusing on the development of tomorrow’s leaders, Andy is thinking about the day after tomorrow’s leaders as a board member of the San Francisco Bay Area’s Leadership Foundation, which serves high-risk high school and college students. He also mentors social purpose startup leaders at Singularity University, serves as a board member of a 100+ year old, privately-held family-owned consumer retail business, and is a board member and past chair of the California Strategic HR Partnership. He is currently a senior innovation advisor to the Center of Creative Leadership and to a nonprofit in the Bay Area. Andy has also served on the innovation advisory boards of two Fortune 500 companies and an entertainment association.
